“IT IS FINISHED”

When Jesus received the drink on the cross, He said “it is finished” With that, he bowed His head and gave up His ghost. (John 19:30). When Jesus gave up His ghost (died) on the cross, the devil and his agents thought that was the end of Him, not knowing the work for which He was born was just accomplished. The word “it is finished” means a lot to you and me, and is one word in Greek (telestai) which is a declaration that the work was done and the result will continue till eternity. I also want you to know that the cry “it is finished” was not a cry of termination, but rather it was a shout of triumph, declaring the completed accomplished work of the cross. “It is finished” is a declaration of 5 things that have been accomplished at a goal.

1. It declared the accomplished fact of Jesus’ earthly mission given Him by His father. (John 18:37) “You are a king, then,” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying l am a King. In fact, for this reason l was born, and for this l came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me” Do you listen to Jesus? It is because of you and me He went through the painful death so that you and me can be set free. (John 8:36) “If the son set you free you are free indeed” His first accomplishment is setting you and me free from the bondage of sin that the devil has placed on us from the beginning of creation.

2. It also declared the fulfillment of important Old Testament prophecy about the suffering Messiah. (Isaiah. 53:4-5) “Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him and by His wounds we are healed”. His mission involved great pain, suffering, disappointment, and grief because of the sin of mankind. So His second accomplishment when He said "it is finished" is He was crushed for our iniquities and by those wounds, we are healed from every disease.

3. It also declared the completion of redemption as the sacrificial and Passover lamb of God involving blood (Ephesians. 1:7-8) “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on with all wisdom and understanding” (Gal. 3:13) “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree” Remember, Jesus became a curse for us in order for us to be free from all curses. Think about that!! This generational curse placed on all mankind from the beginning of creation by the devil. That curse was broken when Jesus said "it is finished" and now we are free from sin as soon as we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. Have yet given your life to Jesus? If not remember that curse is not yet broken in your life. Jesus wants you to be free from that curse so He is waiting for you to invite Him into your life and you'll be free indeed.

4. It also declared the decisive moment of victory on the cross over satan and his network of demons (Col. 2:15) “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross” His death on the cross stripped them of their power to hold men and women captive to evil’s dominion against their will (Heb.2:14) Because those whom Jesus came to redeem are flesh and blood humanity, Jesus also had to become a human being. For only as a true human being could He qualify to redeem the human race from sin and Satan’s power. Jesus died to destroy Satan’s power over those who believe and to deliver them from the fear of death. (1 John 3:8; Rev. 1:18) Do you believe in Jesus? If yes, then today is your day of redemption, just surrender your life to Him completely.

5. It also declared the achieved means of reconciliation of God with his creation and sinful humanity. (Col. 1:20-22) “And through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now He has reconciled you  by Christs physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation.”
Are you ready to surrender your whole life to Jesus? If yes, invite Jesus into your life and let Him be the Lord over your life. With this single act, l promise you, you will never be the same. God bless you as you take this important decision. Amen!!
